Goodbye to the Festa des Caixers: Alaior bids farewell to tradition.

The Caixers Festival was celebrated this weekend in Alaior, marking the end of summer and the festivities with horses. In a calmer atmosphere than Sant Llorenç and more suitable for children and older people, approximately thirty equestrians formed the procession that took center stage yesterday afternoon.

Following the events on Saturday, which concluded with the lively jaleo and revelry featuring the Jukebox Band at Plaça des Ramal, yesterday morning at 9 o’clock, the parade started from the Town Hall with the Xaranga Idò Sí marching band leading the way. Half an hour later, in front of Pouet Nou, the gathering of horsemen and horses took place.

The streets were adorned with vibrant colors and an air of anticipation filled the town as locals and visitors eagerly awaited the sight of the majestic steeds and their skilled riders. The Caixers Festival holds a special place in the hearts of Alaior’s residents, as it embodies a rich tradition passed down through generations.

As the procession made its way through the cobblestone streets, the rhythmic sounds of hooves resonated, creating a symphony that echoed across the town. Spectators lined the sidewalks, capturing the moment with their cameras, while others simply marveled at the beauty and grace displayed by the horses and riders.

Unlike other festivals that may be more boisterous and energetic, the Caixers Festival exuded a sense of tranquility. It provided an ideal setting for families to enjoy the spectacle together, with children marveling at the horses and older individuals relishing in the nostalgic ambiance.

The procession reached its climax during the jaleo, a thrilling display of horsemanship where riders skillfully maneuvered their horses amidst the cheers and applause of the crowd. The power and elegance of these magnificent animals were on full display, leaving spectators in awe of their strength and agility.

After the excitement of the jaleo subsided, the festivities continued with a vibrant soirée. The Jukebox Band took to the stage once again, filling the air with lively music that had everyone tapping their feet and dancing along. Laughter and joy reverberated through the square as people celebrated together, united by the shared appreciation for this cherished tradition.

The Caixers Festival not only marks the end of summer but also serves as a reminder of the cultural heritage deeply ingrained in Alaior’s identity. It is a testament to the town’s love for horses and its commitment to preserving age-old customs.

As dusk descended on Alaior, the echoes of hooves faded away, but the memories of the Caixers Festival lingered in the hearts of those who witnessed its beauty and grandeur. Until next year, the spirit of celebration and the bond between the people and their equine companions will remain an integral part of Alaior’s rich tapestry.
