Recently, criticism has emerged regarding the inadequacy of the school grading system, with many companies expressing dissatisfaction. In order to gain insight into the factors that truly matter for recruitment, we reached out to six businesses for their perspectives.

The importance of academic grades in the hiring process has been a longstanding debate. While grades have traditionally served as a key indicator of a candidate’s intellectual capabilities and work ethic, some argue that they fail to provide a holistic view of an individual’s potential. This criticism has prompted us to investigate what qualities employers value beyond conventional scholastic achievements.

In our survey of six diverse companies across various industries, we sought to identify the factors that hold significance during the recruitment process. The responses shed light on the aspects that employers prioritize when evaluating candidates.

One common theme that emerged from the interviews was the emphasis on practical experience. Companies indicated that tangible skills gained through internships, part-time jobs, or extracurricular activities played a crucial role in distinguishing candidates. These experiences allow individuals to acquire hands-on knowledge relevant to the industry, fostering adaptability and problem-solving abilities.

Furthermore, companies highlighted the value of soft skills, such as communication, teamwork, and leadership. Employers emphasized the need for individuals who can effectively collaborate in diverse teams, communicate their ideas clearly, and demonstrate leadership potential. These attributes contribute to a productive and harmonious work environment, which is highly valued by employers aiming to build cohesive teams.

Another aspect that garnered attention was a candidate’s motivation and drive. Employers expressed a strong preference for individuals who exhibited a genuine passion for their field of interest.
